my guesses:

Since he can't bring himself to talk about it and it specifically mentioned he finally "gets" a subject I'm assuming it's something horribly embarrassing.

He (Bob) has seen the light. He took 22 steps towards the light, then thought something other Wise and turned to the 'Riiightt', had another thought and turned to the left. The 'light became a bit dim, sooooo Bob thought again, spun around, taking 4 steps and WHOOP! Smack Dab; he walked straight in thru the Wall!
